Coming soon: But You Don’t Look Autistic At All!

It’s never the right moment. That’s what they tell people that want to have babies, but are not sure when. I’m talking about another kind of baby: my book, in English! Is this the right moment? Probably not. But I’m doing it anyway.

I’ve been working on this for weeks, no, months. After unsuccessful attempts by my Dutch publisher to find a foreign party interested (because they’d have to find, translate and read a Dutch book first…), somebody suggested crowdfunding. I saw more and more people around me self-funding and self-publishing, and whereas before it had an aura of antivaxxers and cult leaders, nowadays it feels almost like doing things independently is the hot new thing.

So then I had to acquire the rights back – because even though this is my story, I signed with Blossom Books and that included foreign translations. But now that we have a deal, my translator has started and the campaign is approved, the world is in the clutches of Corona.

So, cancel the project? Postpone it? Nope! Because books can be made in quarantaine, books can be read in quarantaine (even though I hope Corona will be gone by then) and this self-employed girl can use your help more than ever.

So here’s my Kickstarter: But You Don’t Look Autistic At All. I’ll keep you posted. I’m nervous. But also so excited!
